Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 7, 2026 | Last Updated: July 17, 2026

PinePoint LLC ("we," "us," or "our") operates the PBCatch mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use the App.

1. Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your email address and display name. If you sign in with Apple, we receive the information you authorize Apple to share (which may include your name and email, or a private relay email address).
  • Catch Data: Species, weight, length, date, time, technique, lure or bait, and any notes you enter when logging a catch.
  • Photos: Images you capture or upload when logging catches, including photos used for on-device fish identification.
  • Fishing Spots: Names, notes, and locations of the fishing spots you create or save.
  • Profile Information: Display name and preferences such as unit system (imperial or metric) and region.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Location Data: With your permission, we collect GPS coordinates (a) when you log a catch, to record where it was caught, and (b) when you create or search for a fishing spot on the map. Location is only collected when you take one of these actions and have granted location permission. You can revoke this permission at any time through your device settings.
  • Weather and Water Data: When you log a catch, we retrieve weather conditions (temperature, wind, humidity, pressure, and general conditions) and, where available, nearby water conditions (flow, level, and water temperature) from third-party data services based on the catch location and time. This data is associated with your catch record.
  • Diagnostics Data: We collect crash and performance diagnostics using Apple's MetricKit framework to help us diagnose technical issues. This may include device type, operating system version, app version, and crash logs. It does not include your catch data or photos. We do not use third-party advertising or tracking SDKs, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Information Collected with Your Consent

  • ML Training Data (Opt-In Only): If you choose to participate in our model improvement program, you may opt in to share your fish photos along with the associated species label. This data is used solely to improve the accuracy of our fish identification model. Opting in is entirely voluntary, and you can opt out at any time in the App's settings. Photos shared for this purpose are stripped of location data and personal identifiers before being added to our training dataset.
  • Product Emails (Opt-In Only): You may opt in to receive occasional emails about new features, improvements, and fishing tips. This is entirely optional — it is never required to create an account or to use any part of the App, and the box is unchecked by default. If you opt in, we record your email address, your choice, and the date you made it. You can opt out at any time in the App's settings or by using the unsubscribe link in any such email. Opting out does not affect your account.

Service messages — such as email verification, password resets, receipts, and important notices about your account or changes to these policies — are not marketing, and are sent regardless of this setting because they are necessary to operate your account.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve the App and its features.
  • Enable catch logging, personal best tracking, fish identification, and analytics.
  • Back up your data and sync it across your devices.
  • Process your subscription and manage your account.
  • Generate insights and analytics about your fishing patterns (such as weather correlations, seasonal trends, and water-temperature patterns) for premium subscribers.
  • Improve our fish identification model using anonymized, opt-in photo contributions.
  • Diagnose crashes and improve App performance and reliability.
  • Respond to your support requests and send you service messages about your account.
  • Send you product emails about new features and fishing tips, only if you have opted in.

3. Data Storage and Security

Local-First Architecture

Your catch data is stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage framework, so the App is fully usable offline. Your device is the source of truth for your data.

Cloud Sync and Backup (Free for All Users)

Your catch data and photos are synced to and backed up on our cloud infrastructure, provided by Supabase, which uses industry-standard encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest. Cloud sync and photo backup let you restore your data and access it across your devices. Cloud sync and photo backup are available to all users at no cost — they are not premium features.

Fish Identification

Fish identification is performed entirely on your device using an on-device machine learning model. Your photos are not sent to any server for identification purposes. The only exception is if you have opted in to the ML training data program described above.

Security

We implement reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures to protect your information. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

4. Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:

  • Apple (Sign in with Apple, StoreKit, MetricKit): For authentication, subscription management, and crash/performance diagnostics. Subject to Apple's Privacy Policy.
  • Supabase: For account authentication and cloud data storage and sync. Subject to Supabase's Privacy Policy.
  • Open-Meteo: For retrieving weather data associated with catches. We send location coordinates and timestamps to retrieve weather information. Subject to Open-Meteo's Terms.
  • U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and NOAA: For retrieving public water data (flow, level, and water temperature) near your catch locations.
  • MailerLite: For sending product emails, only to users who have opted in. We share your email address with MailerLite for this purpose only. Subject to MailerLite's Privacy Policy.

We do not sell your personal information to any third party, and we do not use your data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information. We may share your information only in the following circumstances:

  • With your consent: For example, if you opt in to the ML training data program.
  • Service providers: With third-party service providers who assist us in operating the App (as described in Section 4), subject to confidentiality obligations.
  • Legal requirements: If required to do so by law, regulation, or legal process, or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others.
  • Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, in which case your information may be transferred to the successor entity.

6. Your Rights and Choices

  • Location Access: You can enable or disable location services for PBCatch at any time through your device's Settings.
  • Camera and Photo Access: You can manage camera and photo library permissions through your device's Settings.
  • ML Data Contribution: You can opt in or out of sharing photos for model improvement at any time in the App's settings.
  • Product Emails: You can opt in or out at any time in the App's settings (Profile → Product emails), or use the unsubscribe link in any product email. You will still receive service messages about your account.
  • Account Deletion: You can delete your account and all associated cloud data directly in the App at any time (Profile → Delete Account). This deletion is permanent. You may also request deletion by contacting us at the email below. Locally stored data is removed by deleting the App from your device.

7. Children's Privacy

PBCatch is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us.

8. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you through the App. Your continued use of PBCatch after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
